Who better to tell you about starting a career in policing than one of our current students.

Tell us about yourself
Hi! My name is Jordi. I’m 24 and I joined Norfolk constabulary in June 2025. Before my role in the police, I was a Branch Manager of an estate agency for 5 years prior to joining the police. It was something I had wanted to do since I was little, but it felt too scary to come out of my comfort zone with such a big change. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family and my Rescue dog, Mini!
How are you finding the training?
The Training has been exciting. Some days throughout training school were more practical and others were more theory based; we had a nice balance of both. It worked well to learn a topic, then put it into practise. I’ve found being out on area has been similar. There are days where we will be back-to-back with responding to CADs or paperwork then the next day could be the opposite. The variety of what we can deal with day to day makes it exciting.
What would you say to someone thinking of joining the police?
Absolutely give it a go. It isn’t for everyone but if you have a desire to make a difference then don’t let anything stop you. There are days which are difficult, but the good days carry you through, as does having a great team surrounding you.
Has training changed your perspective of policing?
It has; it has shown me how much more goes on behind the scenes that members of public just don’t see.
What has been the biggest challenge so far?
Confidence. It can be tricky being in a new environment with a new team and doing everything for the first time. Using things you learn in training school in the real world can be daunting but it becomes second nature within a short space of time.
What's been the biggest highlight?
The biggest highlight so far must be seeing how much of a difference we can make. Either with our interactions or involvement.
What are you looking forward to/ambitions?
I’m looking forward to seeing my career develop over the coming years. There are so many different departments within the police force and I’m excited to learn what individual departments do to see which way my career will go.
